This is similar to the “osxkeychain” helper described above, but uses the Windows Credential Store to control sensitive information. If you’re using Windows, you can enable the Git Credential Manager feature when installing Git for Windows or separately install the latest GCM as a standalone service. This method stores the credentials on disk, and they never expire, but they’re encrypted with the same system that stores HTTPS certificates and Safari auto-fills. ![]() If you’re using macOS, Git comes with an “osxkeychain” mode, which caches credentials in the secure keychain that’s attached to your system account. If you want to change this default behavior and have the formatting applied to other types of files or to files located in specific directories only, you can customize it using glob patterns. The downside of this approach is that your passwords are stored in cleartext in a plain file in your home directory. With the Run on save for files checkbox ticked, WebStorm will apply formatting to all JavaScript and TypeScript files that you’ve edited in your project. When you save a file that triggers page reload, WebStorm shows a Got it tooltip. This means that until you change your password for the Git host, you won’t ever have to type in your credentials again. By default, after you open an HTML file in the browser or in the built-in preview, WebStorm automatically reloads the page every time this HTML file (or any linked JavaScript or Style Sheet file) is saved manually or automatically, see Save and revert changes. The “store” mode saves the credentials to a plain-text file on disk, and they never expire. None of the passwords are ever stored on disk, and they are purged from the cache after 15 minutes. The “cache” mode keeps credentials in memory for a certain period of time. Every connection will prompt you for your username and password. WebStorm lets you preview HTML files in a browser using the built-in web server, and now it will automatically update the pages in a browser as you edit and save your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files. ![]()
